Welcome to Navigate NZ
When I was in Year 11, my mum asked me what "NCEA credits" meant. I didn't know either. Neither did anyone in our extended family. So we Googled, piece by piece, year by year โ and a lot of things that should have been obvious weren't.
That gap is what Navigate NZ is trying to close.
What we've launched with
- 14 plain-language guides covering NCEA, Cambridge, IB, University Entrance, subject selection, scholarships, StudyLink, and more.
- 5 interactive tools (expanding to 9 in the next release): credit calculator, university matcher, scholarship finder, key dates timeline, personal statement helper.
- 12 action modules โ short checklists you can work through one step at a time.
- A personalised pathway assessment that takes 5 minutes and points you to what matters for your year level and situation.
- Hindi and Chinese translations of the main guides (with more on the way).
Everything is free. No ads. No data selling. No upsell to a paid tier because there is no paid tier.
Who we're for
If you're a student or a family member in New Zealand who is figuring out the education system for the first time โ this is for you. That covers a lot of households: migrant families, first-generation university-bound students, refugee-background families, anyone whose parents didn't go through the NZ system.
You don't have to sign up. Read any guide, use any tool. If you want a personalised pathway and progress tracking, the assessment + dashboard are there too.
What's next
- New tools: university cost calculator, career pathways mapper, hall-vs-flatting comparison, pathway decision tree โ all shipping soon.
- School partnerships: we're talking to a handful of NZ schools about getting Navigate NZ into careers advisors' hands.
- Volunteer team: if you're a student, graphic designer, translator, writer, or just want to help โ join us.
One ask
If Navigate NZ helped you or your family, tell us your story. We read every submission. Real stories from real families are how we decide what to build next โ and they help convince schools and donors that this actually matters.
